Not the happy little earth-spirits from children’s fantasy. These are older. Worse. Warped into obedience and made cruel in the process.
I first encountered them during the battle at Stonehenge; little, hunched things in crude metal armor, shuffling like rats around the outside of the inner circle. They moved with uncanny coordination, eyes blank with compulsion. I assumed they were directed by Oberon’s magic.
Tristan described them as “kid-sized goblins with knives and bad attitudes.” Tama said one bit him. I have no reason to doubt either.
They’re fast, hard to track magically, and prone to fits of giggling or mimicry, especially in the presence of fear. I would not be surprised if they can smell it. Based on what Tristan and Tama described, the ones at Berlin were more erratic, but whether that was a natural evolution or Puck’s influence is hard to say.
