At 17, Balam is fast, sharp, and instinct-driven… more primal than trained. He can move like a shadow, always one step ahead of threats.
I became aware of him after an incident at a museum in Chile. A fire alarm triggered during an Inca exhibit; most ran, but he, a boy of 8, moved toward the smoke. He said he “felt something watching.” I believed him and started keeping tabs on him.
His reflexes are beyond human. He tracks movement before it begins. Hears things others miss.
I suspect he is marked by the puma, the guardian of Kay Pacha. His instincts protect him, and now, they’re beginning to protect others.
He doesn’t understand his gifts yet. Compares himself too often to the others. But there’s power in him. Quiet. Watching. I hope with further training he can harness them.
